Liberty Quarry Concerns

The Rainbow Gap,
upwind from over 100,000 residents,
is NOT the right place for a quarry.
"Significant and Unavoidable Environmental Impacts:
DEIR No. 475 determined that the proposed project would result in significant and unavoidable impacts to Air Quality and Traffic/Transportation, which cannot be mitigated to below a level of significance. In addition, the DEIR determined that the proposed project would contribute to cumulatively considerable and unavoidable impacts to Air Quality (criteria pollutants and greenhouse gasses) Biological Resources (wildlife movement), Traffic/Transportation (funding and timing of road improvements), and Utilities (water supply) which cannot be mitigated to below a level of significance. As a result of the potential significant and unavoidable impacts, adoption of a Statement of Overriding Considerations will be required in order for the project to be approved."

- SOS Hills Factual Update 8/19
In a paid advertising supplement from Sunday, July 26, 2009, Granite Construction made the above statement that Liberty Quarry will have "No net impacts to regional air quality." THIS IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE!!
- SIGNIFICANT & UNAVOIDABLE impacts noted in recent report
TEMECULA -- There is no way to soften or relieve the proposed Liberty Quarry's impact on the area's air quality and already-snarled traffic, even if that quarry is about 20 acres smaller than initially proposed, according to a long-awaited report that was drawn up as part of Granite Construction's bid to build a quarry
on 400 acres near Temecula's southwestern border.

Health Risks Created by Liberty Quarry |
Silicosis is a deadly disease caused by the inhalation of razor sharp microscopic particles of silica dust.

Freeway Traffic Due to Liberty Quarry |
Yes, they say... there may be fewer trucks on the freeways BUT...
 |
Jobs Lost Because of Liberty Quarry |
Yes, they say... Liberty Quarry may create about 100 jobs BUT...
 |
Environmental Impact of Liberty Quarry |
Yes, they say... Liberty Quarry itself may not be visible from the valley below BUT...
 |
Erosion of Property Values Caused by Liberty Quarry |
Health risk, freeway traffic, job loss and adverse enivornental impact combine to make Temecula a less desirable place to live which directly impacts decisions to buy property and consequently property values. California state law requires disclosure of "Material Facts" that may cause some one to alter their decision to act. That would include Liberty Quarry.
If you think this won't have a negative impact on home values and home equity, please think again.
Temecula Valley Realtors currently use a disclosure document approved by the California Association of Realtors (C.A.R.) that is called the "Seller Property Questionaire" (C.A.R. Form SPQ 04/05). It is not required by law but is highly recommended for use by C.A.R. The "Seller Property Questionaire" does not specifically cover Liberty Quarry because it is a statewide form and Temecula Valley Realtors do not currently have a "Local Area Disclosure" like the two communities listed below.

Which will open first?
a. Our badly needed hospital
b. Liberty Quarry |
Q. Why does Granite's "libertyquarryfacts.com" website get top mention and your "libertyquarryconcerns.com" is listed in 8th position in a search for "liberty quarry" on Google? The same search words on Yahoo yield a better positioning result with your website second only to Granite, who is again first. It seems that there must be some criterion which preempts even alphabetical order..is it $$...? Lynn Davis, Rainbow Against the Quarry
A. Search engine positioning has to do with many factors. One of the most important is link popularity. Click here to read more about it. Basically, the theory is that the more other website owners create links to your site, the more useful your information must be. It is sort of a democratic process. The bottom line...to get www.LibertyQuarry.com ranked higher, we need every website owner possible to create links from their website over to ours.
As far as the money issue goes, it is possible to buy "sponsored links" on the top and sides of search engines but it does not appear that Granite Construction is doing that.

Dear SOS Supporters and TVUSD STUDENTS and
PARENTS, The TVUSD School Board canceled the November 3rd meeting that was
organized to learn about the health effects of Liberty Quarry on the children
of the district. Granite Construction was naturally pleased about this decision
as it allows them to continue their permitting process minus the input of the
Temecula School Board. Since the role of the board is "providing community leadership
as advocates for children" the effects of silica dust and other dust particles that will
effect them must be considered.
Please attend the next School Board Meeting on Nov. 10th at
6:00p.m. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN IN THE DISTRICT:
Consider giving a 30 second to one minute speech (during public
comment at the beginning of the meeting) asking the board to become aware of the possible health hazards to our children.
Ask them to write a letter of concern to the Riverside County Supervisors Please forward this to other concerned parents of TVUSD school
Children. Directions to November 10th TVUSD Board Meeting (from old town
Temecula take Rancho Calif. Rd to Margarita and turn rt. to Rancho Vista - turn
left for .4 mi. turn left in the driveway of the offices and turn left at the
second driveway to building B)
